Dubai Leads the Future Dialogue of the Global Coffee Sector

Dubai – Qahwa World

In a move that reinforces Dubai’s position as a global center of gravity in the coffee economy, the city is preparing to host World of Coffee Dubai 2026, an event that seeks to outline a new chapter in the history of the industry, shifting coffee from a traditional commodity trade to a knowledge- and innovation-driven sector.

  • A Journey of Quality Through Time

The exhibition’s vision is grounded in the historical progression that shaped today’s coffee culture, while correcting misconceptions and offering authoritative reference content:

The Era of Mass Production (1890–1960):
This period was dominated by “coffee for the masses,” with the focus placed on volume and ease of preparation at the expense of quality.

The Emergence of Specialization (1960–1990):
The early signs of a shift toward higher quality appeared in the 1960s, a movement that led to the official emergence of the term “specialty coffee” in the 1970s. This era marked a growing global focus on origin, quality, and roasting methods.

The Age of Craft and Sustainability (2000–Present):
Today, the industry has entered a professional and mature phase, where coffee has become a social experience supported by technology, alongside an intensified focus on transparency and sustainability.

  • Figures and Ambitions

The fifth edition of the exhibition will take place from 18 to 20 January 2026 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. What began with just 3,000 visitors has grown into an event attracting more than 17,000 visitors and 450 international exhibitors, positioning it as the primary gateway to the regional coffee market, which is projected to reach revenues of USD 38 billion by 2030.

  • Participation Opportunities and Activities

The exhibition offers a range of opportunities for professionals, including:

Roasters Village: A dedicated area for small roasteries to showcase their products directly (AED 9,000).

Brewing Zone and Cupping Rooms: Professional platforms that enable the tasting and evaluation of rare coffees by industry experts.

Innovation Awards and Coffee Auctions: Activities that celebrate creativity and bring exporters and buyers together in a dynamic setting.

“Be a Speaker” Program: A knowledge-sharing platform that allows experts to present their insights on the future of the industry and the impact of technology and artificial intelligence.

An Invitation to Regional Cafés

The exhibition invites cafés across the region to join the World of Coffee Café Network, benefiting from direct sourcing opportunities and professional networking with more than 1,980 brands from 130 countries.

World of Coffee Dubai 2026 is not merely a trade event; it is a global platform that brings farmers together with roasters, investors with baristas, collectively shaping the future of the global coffee landscape from the heart of Dubai.

What’s New in the Dubai Coffee Auction 2026

Dubai Qahwa World

The Dubai Coffee Auction returns this year as part of World of Coffee Dubai 2026, promising a bigger and more exciting experience than ever. The three-day event, taking place from 18 to 20 January 2026, offers roasters, café owners, and coffee enthusiasts the opportunity to explore and purchase some of the world’s finest coffees and innovative equipment.

Auction Event Schedule:

18 January Coffee Equipment Showcase: Exhibitors will present a curated auction of specialized, high-end, and custom coffee equipment, providing attendees with an exclusive chance to explore the tools shaping modern coffee craftsmanship.

19 January Premium Coffee Auction: Participants can bid on rare and specialty coffee lots, both in person and online through cupping bidding sessions, offering a more interactive experience for buyers worldwide.

20 January Green Coffee Auction: A curated selection of pre-screened, top-tier green coffees will be showcased to buyers through in-person cupping sessions, emphasizing quality and exclusivity.

Organisers confirmed that this year’s auction introduces new experiences designed to connect buyers with rare microlots, specialty coffee, and advanced equipment, reinforcing Dubai’s position as a global hub for coffee lovers and the coffee industry.

The auction first launched last year during World of Coffee Dubai 2025, marking the region’s first-ever rare coffee auction, featuring around 20 collections of specialty and rare coffee beans.

The auction is the result of a strategic partnership between World of Coffee and the Coffee Centre of DMCC, aiming to strengthen Dubai’s role as a global coffee hub. Attendees can participate in person, while remote participants can join through a sophisticated digital platform.

In its inaugural edition, the Dubai Coffee Auction achieved record prices, with 16 collections of some of the rarest and finest beans offered by 11 producers from nine countries, including 11 collections of Geisha coffee, covering six different varieties, making the auction a global showcase of the world’s top coffee producers.

The highest-priced coffee in the auction was natural Geisha from the “Finca Sofia” farm in Panama, sold at $10,020 per kilogram, while another variety from the same farm reached $8,614 per kilogram, and a selection from “Finca La Mula” sold for $2,620 per kilogram. Meanwhile, Oma Natural coffee from Ethiopia reached $1,100 per kilogram, setting a new record for Ethiopian coffee.

The “Kona SL 34” variety from Hawaii also achieved a new U.S. coffee record at $950 per kilogram, an eightfold increase over the previous highest price paid for Kona coffee.

Geisha coffee is considered one of the rarest and most expensive coffees globally, known for its unique floral and citrus notes such as jasmine, and a smooth texture. Its origins trace back to Ethiopia, specifically the village of Geisha, and it was transplanted to Panama in the 1960s, where it thrives in high-altitude farms.

Additionally, “La Yamafrom producerLos Rodriguezbecame the most expensive Bolivian coffee ever sold, fetching $350 per kilogram.

Specialty coffee, in general, is classified as coffee scoring 80 points or higher on a 100-point scale used in the Specialty Coffee Association’s cupping form. All lots presented in the auction scored 92 points or higher, reflecting their high quality.

Auction prices are driven by three main factors: superior quality, which typically scores above 90 points in cupping tests; rarity, as limited production increases demand; and the producer’s reputation and story, which add value and attract buyers seeking consistency and excellence.

World of Coffee Dubai to Host the 2026 Cezve/Ibrik Championship

Dubai – Qahwa World

The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) has officially announced that World of Coffee Dubai 2026 will host the 2026 Cezve/Ibrik Championship (CIC)—marking the first stage of the 2026 World Coffee Championships (WCC) season.
The competition will take place January 18–20, 2026 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, coinciding with what is expected to be the largest edition of World of Coffee Dubai to date.

Produced by DXB Live in collaboration with the SCA UAE Chapter, World of Coffee Dubai has rapidly become the Middle East’s leading coffee trade event since its launch in 2022. The show continues to unite producers, roasters, manufacturers, and coffee professionals from around the globe — highlighting Dubai’s growing role as a bridge between coffee cultures of the East and the West.

The Cezve/Ibrik Championship pays homage to one of the world’s oldest brewing traditions. The cezve, also known as an ibrik, is a small long-handled pot traditionally made from copper, brass, or ceramic, used for centuries across Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. Competitors in this event bring cultural expression and personal artistry to their performances, reimagining this ancient brewing method in a modern competitive setting.

Hosting this championship in Dubai is especially symbolic. The city’s deep cultural ties to traditional coffee preparation, combined with its reputation as a global hub for innovation and trade, make it a fitting venue for a competition that blends heritage with creativity.

Khalid Al Mulla, National Coordinator of the UAE Coffee Championships, stated: “We are truly honored to welcome the Cezve/Ibrik Championship to Dubai. This event represents more than competition — it’s a celebration of tradition, craftsmanship, and cultural connection. Bringing it to the UAE reinforces Dubai’s position as a bridge between the coffee cultures of the East and the West.”

The SCA has also released the 2026 CIC Rules and Regulations, including updated rules documents, summaries of changes, scoresheets, and an appeals form, all available at wcc.coffee/rules-regulations
.

The World Coffee Championships serve as a platform for global coffee professionals to showcase their craft, share knowledge, and inspire future generations of baristas, brewers, tasters, and roasters. Dubai’s inclusion as the first host city of the 2026 season further strengthens its status as a world-class coffee destination.

Dubai Coffee Centre Expands to Keep Pace with the Future of Global Coffee Trade

Dubai, 17 September 2025 (Qahwa World) – The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC), the world’s leading free zone and a key driver of global trade flows through Dubai, has officially launched the new mezzanine floor at its Dubai Coffee Centre. The 500-square-meter space has been designed to provide members and stakeholders in the coffee sector with greater access to international markets, foster innovation, and accelerate business growth.

The new facility includes 16 private offices available for lease, flexible co-working spaces, and an exclusive espresso bar for members, offering them the opportunity to host guests and showcase their products with ease. This expansion comes at a pivotal moment for the coffee industry, where the demand for flexible and integrated infrastructure to support origin producers, specialty roasters, and SMEs is more pressing than ever.

Coinciding with the expansion, DMCC released the latest edition of its Future of Trade report, this time focusing on the coffee sector. The report highlights the shifting dynamics of a global industry valued at over $200 billion, with international coffee trade alone exceeding $26 billion. With more than two billion cups consumed daily, coffee remains one of the most traded commodities in the world, yet climate threats, evolving consumer tastes, and shifting power dynamics across the value chain are reshaping the global coffee map.

Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman and CEO of DMCC, said:
“Coffee is not just a commodity; it is deeply woven into our identity in the Arab world and serves as a cornerstone of the global economy. With a consumer market exceeding $200 billion and nearly two billion cups consumed daily, coffee has shaped traditions of hospitality and trade since its journey from Yemen’s terraced farms and the port of Mokha to Europe, where coffeehouses became incubators for modern finance and ideas that fueled the Enlightenment and early industrial revolution. Today, more than 25 million farmers, most of them smallholders, rely on coffee for their livelihoods. The sector stands at a turning point, with direct-to-consumer pathways, climate-smart agriculture, and digital tools—from AI-powered traceability to tokenization of real assets—reshaping the industry. Dubai’s role now goes beyond redistribution; it has become a global platform for specialty coffee. The World of Coffee Dubai 2025 exhibition attracted more than 17,000 visitors and set record auction prices for rare varieties, underscoring the depth of the market in the Middle East and North Africa, expected to reach $11.5 billion. With this ecosystem, complemented by our Tradeflow digital commodities platform, Dubai is writing the next chapter in coffee’s story—where heritage meets innovation and inclusive growth becomes a reality.”

Mike Butler, Associate Director – Coffee at DMCC, added:
“This report paints a picture of a future that is complex but full of opportunities. Our role is to support members of the Dubai Coffee Centre by providing storage, logistics, roasting services, and facilitating trade between members. The new mezzanine floor, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, is a tangible demonstration of this commitment and part of our broader strategy to solidify Dubai’s position as a global coffee hub.”

The Future of Trade report outlines several trends likely to shape the coffee industry in the coming years, including the rise of new direct-to-consumer trade routes driven by emerging markets such as China and Asia-Pacific, greater value retention in producing countries through local roasting and brand building, digital trade and blockchain-enabled traceability, climate-smart farming practices with drought-resistant varieties and agroforestry, and shifting consumer dynamics led by younger generations, particularly Gen Z, who are driving demand for sustainable specialty coffee and premium experiences.

The report also recommends scaling up investment in climate-smart agriculture, improving price transparency, empowering producers through supply chain digitization, expanding direct-to-consumer models, and developing trade infrastructure in strategic hubs like Dubai to streamline logistics, cut emissions, and strengthen traceability.

The latest edition continues the Future of Trade series, which has become one of the most widely read and trusted resources on global trade dynamics. With more than 2.5 million cumulative downloads and views, the series continues to shape global trade dialogue at a time when economic fragmentation and supply chain transformations are redrawing the map of global commerce.
