2025 uae aeropress championship returns this november with a new theme celebrating “qahwa qulture”

Dubai – Qahwa World

The UAE’s most anticipated and inclusive coffee competition is back – and promises to be better than ever.  The 2025 UAE AeroPress Championship returns for its ninth edition, bringing together competitors, café owners, industry professionals, and coffee lovers from across the Emirates in what is now considered one of the most exciting and dynamic coffee events in the region.

Building on the momentum of last year’s record-breaking success – which saw the UAE host the largest coffee competition in the world by number of competitors – the 2025 edition will celebrate the unique and evolving coffee culture of the Emirates under the theme: “A Celebration of Qahwa Qulture in the Emirates.”

This year’s theme pays tribute to the UAE’s deep-rooted coffee heritage – from traditional Arabic Qahwa brewed in a dallah to the rise of specialty coffee and modern methods like the AeroPress.  The event will highlight how these traditions now coexist and shape one of the most vibrant and innovative coffee cultures in the world.

The event’s host, Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, DMCC, said: “The global coffee industry generates more than USD 200 billion each year, spanning production, trade, culture, and consumption, and supports the livelihoods of approximately 25 million farmers. As a longstanding champion of the sector, I have witnessed first-hand the opportunities it creates for producers and consumers alike. As the industry continues to expand and transform, the UAE AeroPress Championship is not only a celebration of brewing excellence; it is a platform for cultural expression and global connection. Hosting the championship at DMCC’s Almas Tower, with support from the DMCC Coffee Centre, which processed more than 7,400 metric tonnes of coffee in 2024 and has recently expanded its capacity to provide even greater market access for our members, reflects our continued commitment to advancing the sector and strengthens Dubai’s position as a global hub for coffee heritage, trade, and innovation.”

The organizer of the event and CEO of Mokha 1450, Garfield Kerr, said: “Dubai and the UAE writ large has become one of the leading specialty coffee markets and coffee destinations in the world, and I do not think this happened by chance. The long history of coffee in the UAE means that coffee is not just a daily dose of caffeine to get you through the day, but a cultural cornerstone that elevates and adds a sense of measure to a normal day.  Furthermore, coffee is used to imbue importance and ceremony to significant events and social gatherings.  Each household has a special recipe for “Qahwa” or “coffee”, that is closely guarded, passed down for generations, and is still referenced for the daily preparation of coffee. For this reason, there is always a very strong level of enthusiasm, passion, as well as innovation at the UAE AeroPress Championship. Accordingly, this year’s iteration, will place the cultural significance of Qahwa in the UAE on full display.”

CQI Workshop in Dubai Explores the Science of Post-Harvest Coffee Processing

Tomorrow, coffee professionals and enthusiasts in the UAE will gather at the Victoria Arduino Experience Lab in Dubai for a six-hour workshop titled “CQI – Introduction to Post-Harvest Processing.” Organized by Mystic Cup Stories in collaboration with Victoria Arduino, the class promises an in-depth and hands-on introduction to one of the most crucial stages in coffee production.

Accredited by the Coffee Quality Institute (CQI), the session will guide participants through major processing methods — Natural, Honey, Mechanically Demucilaged, Fully Washed, and Wet Hulled — explaining how each technique shapes the final flavor profile of coffee.

The workshop will be led by Kristina Bakhtoiarova, an experienced educator, roaster, and consultant with over 15 years in specialty coffee. As a Q Processing Lecturer, Bakhtoiarova has trained professionals around the world and will share her deep understanding of post-harvest systems, from cherry selection and fermentation to drying and pre-cleaning.

Participants can also look forward to a guided coffee cupping featuring coffees from Mystic Cup Stories, offering a sensory exploration of how processing methods affect taste and aroma.

The program is open to baristas, roasters, café owners, coffee lovers, and future green buyers who want to decode common processing terms such as “Washed,” “Honey,” and “Natural.”

By hosting this CQI workshop, Victoria Arduino continues to strengthen Dubai’s reputation as a leading center for specialty coffee education and innovation in the Middle East.

World of Coffee Dubai to Host the 2026 Cezve/Ibrik Championship

Dubai – Qahwa World

The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) has officially announced that World of Coffee Dubai 2026 will host the 2026 Cezve/Ibrik Championship (CIC)—marking the first stage of the 2026 World Coffee Championships (WCC) season.
The competition will take place January 18–20, 2026 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, coinciding with what is expected to be the largest edition of World of Coffee Dubai to date.

Produced by DXB Live in collaboration with the SCA UAE Chapter, World of Coffee Dubai has rapidly become the Middle East’s leading coffee trade event since its launch in 2022. The show continues to unite producers, roasters, manufacturers, and coffee professionals from around the globe — highlighting Dubai’s growing role as a bridge between coffee cultures of the East and the West.

The Cezve/Ibrik Championship pays homage to one of the world’s oldest brewing traditions. The cezve, also known as an ibrik, is a small long-handled pot traditionally made from copper, brass, or ceramic, used for centuries across Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. Competitors in this event bring cultural expression and personal artistry to their performances, reimagining this ancient brewing method in a modern competitive setting.

Hosting this championship in Dubai is especially symbolic. The city’s deep cultural ties to traditional coffee preparation, combined with its reputation as a global hub for innovation and trade, make it a fitting venue for a competition that blends heritage with creativity.

Khalid Al Mulla, National Coordinator of the UAE Coffee Championships, stated: “We are truly honored to welcome the Cezve/Ibrik Championship to Dubai. This event represents more than competition — it’s a celebration of tradition, craftsmanship, and cultural connection. Bringing it to the UAE reinforces Dubai’s position as a bridge between the coffee cultures of the East and the West.”

The SCA has also released the 2026 CIC Rules and Regulations, including updated rules documents, summaries of changes, scoresheets, and an appeals form, all available at wcc.coffee/rules-regulations
.

The World Coffee Championships serve as a platform for global coffee professionals to showcase their craft, share knowledge, and inspire future generations of baristas, brewers, tasters, and roasters. Dubai’s inclusion as the first host city of the 2026 season further strengthens its status as a world-class coffee destination.
