On 19 January 2026, Kato Joshua, Founder of the Institute for Tech Diplomacy and Resource Governance (ITDRG), will present “Coffee Diplomacy: Leveraging Technology to Strengthen Global Coffee Governance.” Joshua will examine how AI and blockchain can enhance transparency, equity, and sustainable trade, particularly in African coffee supply chains. The lecture introduces coffee diplomacy as a framework to support ethical trade, strengthen governance, and foster global collaboration among producers and traders.

Innovation continues on 18 January 2026 with Mario Ubiali, Founder and CEO of Thimus, delivering “The Milan Neurobrew: How Neuroscience Helped Create a New Breed of RTD Coffee Drink.” The session will highlight how sensory neuroscience drives rapid prototyping of ready-to-drink coffee products, creating human-centric, de-risked innovations that align with consumer behaviour. Ubiali is a two-time TEDx speaker, professor of Neuroscience for Marketing, and contributor to Nature Human Behavior.

Also on 18 January 2026, coffee science enthusiasts will benefit from James Harper’s lecture, “The Science of Roasting & Energy Transfer: Mastering the Thermodynamics of Flavour.” Harper, creator of the Filter Stories podcast, will explore the evolution of roasting from early machines to modern convective systems, explaining how heat transfer and chemical reactions shape coffee flavour. Known for making complex science accessible, Harper bridges history, physics, and practical roasting insights.

Organised in partnership with DMCC and DXB LIVE, the experiential agency of Dubai World Trade Centre, and coordinated with M-Cultivo, the global platform for premium coffee auctions, the three auctions introduce an elevated level of transparency, innovation, and market access for producers and buyers alike.

The trilateral collaboration continues to reshape the global auction model through a fully digital ecosystem that enhances market efficiency and expands international trading opportunities for premium coffee. Buyers can join remotely with full access to verified, detailed data for every lot on auction, enabled by advanced technology that ensures transparency and traceability. Three Signature Auctions

Day 1: Dubai Coffee Equipment Auction
The event opens with an auction of limited edition coffee equipment, not available for sale elsewhere. Trade buyers and consumers alike will be tempted by the exclusive lots, highlighting global coffee craftsmanship and equipment innovation.

Day 2: Microlot Coffee Auction
This specialised auction features top-graded specialty microlots sourced from leading farms from countries including Panama, Colombia, Ethiopia, Yemen and Taiwan. Buyers can participate in cupping sessions to evaluate rare lots prior to live bidding, an immersive experience that showcases exceptional precision and craftsmanship while connecting producers with international buyers seeking the world’s finest coffees.

Day 3: Exhibitors’ Coffee Auction
Roasters and producers participating in World of Coffee Dubai will present their signature selections before a global audience of experts and buyers. Coffee Market Growth
The auction programme arrives at a time of strong and sustained growth in the coffee industry. The regional coffee market is projected to surpass USD 22 billion over the next decade, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4–5%.

Dubai has solidified its role as a global re-export hub with coffee re-exports exceeding AED 3.5 billion, driven by rising demand for specialty coffee, a flourishing café culture hosting more than 11,000 well-known brands, and a young consumer base prioritising quality and craftsmanship.

Registration Open for the 2026 UAE National Barista, Latte Art & Roasting Championships

The Specialty Coffee Association – UAE (SCA UAE) has announced the opening of registration for the 2026 UAE National Barista, Latte Art & Roasting Championships, which will be held as part of the World of Coffee Dubai 2026 exhibition at Za’abeel Halls, Dubai World Trade Centre, from January 18 to 20, 2026.

SCA UAE confirmed that the championships will be conducted according to the standards of the World Coffee Championships (WCC), with registration open until December 10, 2026.

Eligibility requirements are as follows:

For UAE Nationals:

Copy of passport

Active membership with SCA UAE

For Residents:

Copy of passport

Copy of UAE residency visa (both old and new as proof of two years residency)

Active membership with SCA UAE

All applicants must complete the online registration form and upload the required documents. A specialized committee will review submissions and select participants based on the completeness and validity of their documents. Confirmed participants will receive an official confirmation email.

Participation Fee: AED 1,500 per championship.

The Specialty Coffee Association of the UAE (SCA UAE) has officially announced the opening of registration for the UAE National Barista, Latte Art, and Roasting Championships 2026, which will take place as part of World of Coffee Dubai, hosted at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) from January 18 to 20, 2026.

These championships are among the most anticipated events in the UAE and regional coffee scene, bringing together top professionals and skilled enthusiasts to showcase their mastery in coffee brewing, latte art presentation, and coffee roasting according to the global standards set by the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA).

The national championships serve as a gateway for UAE-based baristas and roasters to qualify for international competitions, providing a platform for cafés and roasteries to highlight their expertise and creativity before an audience of industry professionals and coffee lovers.

Participants must have resided in the UAE for at least two years and hold a valid residence visa.
Participants must be individual members of the Specialty Coffee Association.

Mexico Prepares Early for World of Coffee Dubai 2026

Xalapa – Mexico, August 21, 2025 (Qahwa World) – As part of Mexico’s early preparations for World of Coffee Dubai 2026, the Secretariat of Economic and Port Development of the State of Veracruz (SEDECOP), through its Directorate of Foreign Trade and in collaboration with Casa Tostadora Briones, has officially invited Veracruz specialty coffee producers to participate in the global event, scheduled for January 18–20, 2026 at the Dubai World Trade Centre (Za’abeel Halls 1, 4, 5 & 6).

Showcasing Veracruz Coffee in the Middle East

The initiative targets Arabica specialty coffee producers from Veracruz to submit samples that highlight the diversity, quality, and richness of the state’s coffee sector. Each sample will be displayed at Mexico’s pavilion in Dubai with the producer’s name, farm, region of origin, and coffee profile — a recognition of the growers’ work and a step to foster direct trade links.

SEDECOP underlined that the purpose of the participation is to strengthen international trade ties, promote the quality of Veracruz coffee in global markets, and position it as an authentic product with high added value. Casa Tostadora Briones emphasized that this step represents an opportunity to give Mexican coffee “a voice and presence” on the global stage while honoring the work and traditions of Veracruz farmers.

Veracruz: Mexico’s Coffee Heartland

Located on the eastern coast of Mexico along the Gulf of Mexico, Veracruz is one of the country’s oldest and most important agricultural regions. Its capital is Xalapa, and the state enjoys diverse climates — from tropical on the coast to temperate in the highlands — creating ideal conditions for coffee cultivation.
Veracruz is among Mexico’s largest coffee-producing regions, particularly in the central highlands, where high-quality Arabica is grown and internationally recognized. The historic Port of Veracruz also serves as a key export gateway for agricultural products, especially coffee.

Participation Requirements

Interested producers must meet the following:

Submit 500 g of green specialty Arabica coffee.
Minimum cupping score of 82+ (SCA standards).
Provide a technical datasheet in both Spanish and English.
Samples accepted from August 2025 until January 5, 2026.
Participation is free of charge, sponsored by Casa Tostadora Briones.
