Mokha 1450 presents an immersive coffee Experience at the Palm Jumeirah

Step into an evening of aroma, flavour, and craft, centered around connection

Dubai, UAE  – Qahwa World

Mokha 1450, the UAE-based luxury specialty coffee brand, invites guests to discover coffee through a new lens with an immersive, multi-sensory experience on Saturday, 25 April 2026, at its Coffee Lounge in Golden Mile, The Palm Jumeirah. Created as a space for connection as much as discovery, the evening brings people together over coffee, encouraging conversation, curiosity, and a deeper appreciation for craft.

Designed as a journey through flavor and aroma, the evening unfolds across curated stations, each exploring a different expression of coffee.  From refined zero-proof cocktails to personalized brewing rituals, the experience blends heritage with innovation, offering a deeper understanding of coffee as both a science and an art form, while creating space to pause, connect, and engage.

At the heart of the evening is The Coffee Olfactory Experience, a guided, interactive session that explores the relationship between aroma and taste.  Led by Specialty Coffee Association (SCA)-certified experts, guests will discover the nuances of single-origin beans, the impact of brewing techniques, and the role of glassware in shaping flavor perception.

Across the space, three distinct coffee experiences will be unveiled:

Smoke & Diamonds presents a refined, zero-proof coffee cocktail layered with delicate smoky notes, served over crystal-clear diamond-shaped ice for a striking sensory experience.

The Desert Flower reimagines traditional Arabic coffee into a chilled, modern composition, infused with saffron, honey, and rose water, and served over an ice sphere encasing the UAE’s national flower, the Tribulus Omanense.

Table-Side Brewing offers a more intimate encounter, with baristas preparing coffee directly at the table, allowing guests to engage with the process and explore how technique shapes flavor.

Guests will also experience a curated music journey inspired by the origins of Mokha 1450’s coffee beans, spanning Jamaica, Ethiopia, Cuba, Colombia, and Yemen, creating an atmosphere that reflects the global story behind each cup.

Brazilian farmer aims to sell rare coffee for nearly $20,000 per bag

Dubai – Qahwa World

A fourth-generation Brazilian coffee farmer is aiming to redefine the upper limits of specialty coffee pricing, with plans to sell one of the world’s rarest varieties—eugenioides—for nearly $20,000 per bag, roughly 50 times the price of conventional arabica beans.

Luiz Paulo Dias Pereira Filho is expanding production of Coffea eugenioides, a little-known species native to East Africa and one of the genetic parents of arabica. Grown on what he says is Brazil’s only dedicated plantation of the variety, the crop represents a niche but fast-emerging segment of the luxury coffee market. Pereira Filho expects his upcoming harvest to generate around 1 million reais (about $190,000) for just 10 standard 60-kg bags.

What sets eugenioides apart is its cup profile. The coffee is naturally very low in caffeine—often close to decaf levels—and known for its pronounced sweetness, delicate body, and absence of bitterness. These traits make it highly attractive to specialty buyers seeking unique sensory experiences rather than traditional strength or intensity.

The farmer has already secured interest from international buyers in Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, and other high-end markets. In 2025, he sold three bags for 90,000 reais (approximately $17,000) each, underscoring growing global demand for rare and experimental coffees, even as broader arabica prices have softened to around $400 per bag.

Industry experts say the trajectory of eugenioides mirrors the early rise of geisha coffee, which transformed from obscurity into one of the most expensive and sought-after varieties in the world. According to the Specialty Coffee Association, scarcity, traceability, and distinctive flavor profiles are increasingly driving value in the premium segment, where consumers are willing to pay significantly more for exclusivity.

However, scaling production remains a major challenge. Eugenioides plants are fragile, highly sensitive to climate variations, and have not undergone the same level of genetic improvement as Arabica or Robusta. As a result, yields are extremely low—about two bags per hectare, compared to 20 or more for Arabica under standard conditions. Pereira Filho currently cultivates just five hectares, limiting total output and reinforcing the coffee’s rarity.

The broader context also supports rising interest in such niche products. Climate change is putting pressure on traditional coffee-growing regions, pushing producers and researchers to explore alternative species like eugenioides that may offer different resilience traits or flavor opportunities. At the same time, the global specialty coffee market continues to expand, with consumers increasingly valuing origin, processing methods, and unique varietals.

While global production of eugenioides remains largely undocumented, only a handful of farms worldwide are believed to be experimenting with commercial cultivation. For Pereira Filho, who has over two decades of experience in specialty coffee, the strategy is clear: focus on quality, rarity, and storytelling to position eugenioides as a true luxury product.

If successful, his efforts could signal the emergence of a new ultra-premium category in coffee—where scarcity and sensory distinction command prices once reserved for fine wine or rare spirits.

The Secret Behind the Smooth Taste of Rare Black Ivory Coffee

Dubai – Qahwa World

The rare Black Ivory coffee, produced with the help of Asian elephants, owes its exceptionally smooth and balanced flavor to the unique gut microbiome of the animals, according to a Japanese study published in a scientific journal.

This coffee is produced in a single reserve in Thailand, where elephants are carefully fed Arabica coffee cherries. The cherries pass through the elephants’ digestive system before the beans are collected, cleaned, and sun-dried. This process is entirely non-invasive and ethical, unlike some other exotic coffees, ensuring the welfare of the animals while contributing to conservation awareness.

Researchers found that the elephants’ diet—composed of coffee cherries, rice bran, and bananas—creates a gut environment rich in Acinetobacter bacteria and other microbes capable of breaking down pectin, a compound naturally present in coffee beans. Normally, pectin partially breaks down during roasting, producing bitter compounds. In Black Ivory coffee, part of the pectin is broken down in the elephant’s gut, resulting in a beverage with markedly less bitterness and a smoother taste.

Beyond its digestive processing, Black Ivory is extremely rare, with annual production typically under 250 kilograms, making it far more limited than Kopi Luwak. Each kilogram requires hundreds of cherries, and the careful manual collection and roasting process adds to its exclusivity.

The coffee is celebrated for its velvety texture and chocolate-forward flavor, often accompanied by subtle notes of caramel, malt, and spices. Its naturally low acidity and bitterness make it ideal for both espresso and filter brewing, even without added sugar or milk.

Due to its scarcity and labor-intensive production, Black Ivory is one of the most expensive coffees in the world, with prices often reaching $500–$1,000 per kilogram. A single cup in specialty cafes can cost $50–$100, making it a true luxury experience for coffee enthusiasts.

With its combination of scientifically unique processing, exceptional flavor, and ethical production, Black Ivory coffee offers a rare glimpse into the innovative and sustainable possibilities of specialty coffee.

Mokha 1450 Set to Unveil Rare Limited-Edition Cuban Coffee

Dubai — Qahwa World

Mokha 1450, a leader in the luxury specialty coffee sector, is preparing to launch its latest limited-edition offering: the Cuban “Extra Turquino Lavado” coffee, recognized as one of the rarest harvests in the world. This exclusive release will be unveiled during a private reception for industry specialists and partners, designed to deliver a sensory experience that aligns with the brand’s philosophy of transforming coffee into a holistic journey.

The rarity of this harvest is rooted in its origin, the Nipe-Sagua-Baracoa region of Cuba. This area is designated as a “Global Biodiversity Hot Spot” and is protected by UNESCO as part of the “Archaeological Landscape of the First Coffee Plantations in the South-East of Cuba”. Such a prestigious heritage provides this edition with exceptional historical and environmental value, making it a significant addition to the luxury coffee market.

The official unveiling of this new edition will take place at 7:00 P.M. on January 19th, 2026. The event will be hosted at the Mokha 1450 x Modora Showroom, located on Umm Suqeim St in Al Barsha Second, Dubai. Invited guests will have the opportunity to explore the unique characteristics of this historic harvest, reflecting Mokha 1450’s ongoing commitment to sourcing the world’s rarest coffees for its audience in the UAE.

Toronto Café Serves $99 Coffee as Part of a Wellness Experience

Toronto – Qahwa World

A new café in Toronto’s Midtown is challenging traditional ideas of a coffee break by offering one of the city’s most expensive cups of coffee — alongside yoga sessions, sound therapy, and wellness treatments.

Denovia, a recently opened wellness-focused café, is serving a Panamanian Elida Geisha hand brew priced at $99 per cup. The coffee is produced in extremely limited quantities, with only 50 cups available per supply, positioning it among the most exclusive specialty coffees currently offered in Toronto.

The café’s founder, Nick Wang, describes Denovia as a hybrid space combining specialty coffee with wellness practices. While the ground floor operates as a café serving both rare beans and familiar drinks such as cappuccinos and cold brews, the upper levels are dedicated to wellness services. These include yoga, aromatherapy, sound therapy, sports recovery treatments, and IV drips.

Wang said the concept was shaped by growing post-pandemic stress levels and personal exposure to wellness practices, noting that the space is intended to encourage calm, reflection, and slower consumption rather than rushed routines.

At the center of Denovia’s premium coffee offering is the Elida Geisha, a varietal originally traced to Ethiopia and later refined in Panama. The coffee is widely known for its floral and fruit-forward characteristics, often associated with notes such as jasmine, bergamot, stone fruit, and tea-like sweetness. Its profile contrasts sharply with the heavier, chocolate-driven flavors found in more conventional coffees.

Geisha coffee is also known for its demanding cultivation requirements. It is typically grown at elevations between 1,500 and 2,000 meters, in volcanic soil and highly specific microclimates that include cool temperatures, mist, and stable weather conditions. These constraints significantly limit supply.

According to Wang, beans from the Elida estate have achieved prices of approximately $1,029 per pound at international Best of Panama auctions, attracting buyers from the global specialty coffee market.

Beyond rarity and price, Wang emphasized the experience itself. He said the Geisha is meant to be enjoyed slowly, comparing it to tea culture rather than fast-paced coffee consumption. In his view, the drink is intended to encourage relaxation and creative thinking rather than speed.

While the $99 Geisha attracts the most attention, Denovia’s menu includes other specialty offerings at lower price points. Hand brews and pour-overs sourced from Ethiopia and Colombia begin at $28, including the ALO 74158. Another Geisha option, the Luna Geisha, is priced at $35. Standard menu items such as americanos and matcha lattes start at $6.

Denovia barista Alex Pinzon, who has eight years of experience in the coffee industry, said customers often question the pricing of high-end specialty coffees. He explained that these coffees undergo more careful processing and preparation, resulting in flavor profiles that surprise many first-time drinkers.

Pinzon noted that customers frequently assume fruit has been added to the coffee, only to learn that the flavors come naturally from the beans themselves.

Among the café’s other specialty drinks are the El Pariso Peach hand-brew latte, described as having a tea-like, peach-forward character, and the TOR8NTO — a sparkling coffee mocktail featuring lychee and strawberry notes.

Denovia is currently operating in a soft-opening phase, with its official grand opening scheduled for January 2026.

Panama Seeks Global Trademark for “Panama Geisha” as Record Auction Prices Spark New Push for Protection

Dubai – Qahwa World

Panama’s Specialty Coffee Association (SCAP) is taking formal steps to secure global branding and trademark rights for “Panama Geisha” following another historic year at the Best of Panama (BoP) auction. The move comes as gesha coffees continue to dominate both the quality rankings and international market prices.

At the August 2025 BoP auction, a washed Gesha coffee from Hacienda La Esmeralda in Boquete, Panama, set a new record at $30,204 per kilogram. The 20-kilogram lot, scoring 98.00 points from 22 international cupping judges, was purchased by Julith Coffee & Roastery in Dubai for a total of $604,080. Overall, the auctioned lots generated approximately $2.8 million, more than double the previous year’s total.

Out of 50 lots, 40 were gesha, reflecting the global demand for this premium variety. Although gesha originates from Ethiopia, the Panamanian cultivar has evolved into a distinct genetic line, renowned for its delicate floral aroma and complex cup profile.

Trademark Efforts

SCAP has accelerated its long-running effort to protect “Panama Geisha.” In September 2025, the association filed trademark applications for a figurative logo in the United States and United Kingdom, following earlier approvals in the European Union and Japan in 2022. Some Panamanian producers have already integrated the logo into packaging and trade show displays.

SCAP president Richardo Koyner states that the trademark will protect the authenticity and origin-linked value of Panamanian gesha, cultivated under unique conditions of volcanic soil, high altitude, diverse microclimates, and artisanal expertise.

Historical Auction Price Highlights

The rise in gesha’s market value is illustrated by previous auctions:

2017: top lot sold for $601/lb; total auction revenue $368,711.

2024: top lot sold for $4,542/lb; total revenue $1.38 million.

2025: top lot sold for $30,204/kg (20 kg, total $604,080) at the Best of Panama electronic auction.

The rapid growth in prices has also attracted counterfeit coffees, a challenge similar to Hawaii Kona or Jamaica Blue Mountain. Trademarking “Panama Geisha” is intended to counter misuse and preserve the integrity of the brand.

Trademark vs. Geographical Indication

SCAP is pursuing a stylized logo, not the term alone. Legal experts note that protecting a figurative mark is often more feasible than a geographic or descriptive term.

Other countries have used geographical indications (GI) for origin protection. For example, Colombia’s “Café de Colombia” and Mexico’s “Café Veracruz” and “Café Chiapas” are legally protected. Panamanian gesha qualifies for GI due to its unique qualities linked to local terroir and genetic distinctiveness, as confirmed by World Coffee Research.

However, SCAP chose the trademark approach because it is simpler, faster to enforce, and easier to license. Membership in SCAP, which currently exceeds 89 members, is required to use the trademark, even though Panama has over 8,200 coffee producers nationwide. Critics argue that broader protections like a GI could benefit all producers cultivating gesha.

Looking Ahead

While U.S. and U.K. trademark approvals are still pending, branding efforts are already enhancing the global prestige of Panama’s gesha. Combined with rising demand and auction performance, “Panama Geisha” is likely to remain one of the world’s most celebrated and high-value coffees for years to come.

Dubai Outdoes Dubai and Serves the World’s Most Expensive Cup of Coffee Once Again

Dubai – Qahwa World

Dubai has done it again—setting a new record for the world’s most expensive cup of coffee and, remarkably, outdoing its own achievement. During an exclusive Panama Night event hosted by Julith Café, the city witnessed the official launch of Nido 7 Geisha, a legendary brew now served to the public at an unprecedented price of AED 3,600 (around USD 1,000) per cup.

Just six weeks after Dubai entered the Guinness World Records in mid-September, when Roasters Café served a cup priced at AED 2,500, Julith has taken the crown with an even higher price tag — proving once more that in Dubai, even records don’t stand still for long.

The rare Nido 7 Geisha beans were acquired by Julith in August at the Best of Panama 2025 auction, following a tense bidding war that drew 549 bids from elite roasters and collectors worldwide. The Dubai café purchased just 20 kilograms of the beans for AED 2,218,785 (USD 604,080)—the highest price ever paid for coffee.

Grown near Panama’s Baru Volcano, Nido 7 Geisha is cultivated in unique microclimates that produce its distinctive floral and fruity profile. It earned an exceptional 98 points at the Best of Panama competition, with six of the 22 judges awarding a perfect 100 points, setting a new global benchmark for coffee excellence.

world’s most expensive coffee Dubai

Serkan Sagsoz, Julith’s Head Roaster and Turkey’s Barista Champion, commented: “We’re not chasing publicity; we’re crafting an experience. This coffee captures the essence of patience, artistry, and nature. Every cup is a story — not just a drink.”

Sagsoz added that a portion of the beans has been reserved for His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, in appreciation of his vision and leadership, and in recognition of Dubai’s growing role as a capital of global coffee culture.

The Geisha Panama Experience now available at Julith offers an intimate sensory journey for up to four guests, guided by expert baristas who share the story of the beans from Panama’s misty highlands to Julith’s meticulous roasting in Dubai. Guests describe the brew as a harmony of jasmine, citrus, apricot, and peach, with a honey-like sweetness that lingers.

Founded in August 2025, Julith Café merges a roastery, café, boutique store, and social space under one roof. Its name derives from Just Like This, reflecting a philosophy of elegance in simplicity. The café sources its beans from Hacienda La Esmeralda, the renowned Peterson family estate that first introduced Geisha coffee to the world and continues to set the gold standard for specialty coffee cultivation.

With this new record, Dubai once again proves that it doesn’t just follow global trends — it creates them, cup after cup.

Dubai Sets World Record with the Most Expensive Cup of Coffee

Dubai – 15 September 2025 – (Qahwa World) – Dubai has once again captured the spotlight in the global coffee scene. Roasters Specialty Coffee House has officially entered the Guinness World Records for serving the most expensive cup of coffee in the world.

The achievement was registered on 13 September 2025 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where Guinness World Records representatives confirmed the milestone. The exceptional cup, brewed using the V60 method, was sold at a record-breaking price, setting a new benchmark for luxury coffee experiences worldwide.

During the official announcement, the Guinness adjudicator declared: “Today is the year for the record of the most expensive coffee cup. This record was achieved by Roaster’s Specialty Coffee House. Congratulations, you are officially amazing.”

This milestone follows a string of bold moves that have placed Dubai’s coffee culture in the global spotlight. Just last month, the famed “Best of Panama 2025” auction made history when washed Geisha coffee from Hacienda La Esmeralda fetched an unprecedented $30,204 per kilogram. Yet the bigger surprise was the buyer: a Dubai-based startup, only one week old at the time, that stunned the industry by purchasing the entire 20-kilogram lot for $604,000.

That dramatic moment shook markets and ignited debates among experts, investors, and coffee leaders worldwide. With this new Guinness World Record, Dubai has once again proven its unique ability to merge tradition with innovation and luxury, cementing its place as a rising force in the global coffee industry.

Return of Elite GESHA Coffee from El Salvador Celebrated with a Stylish Event in Tallinn

Tallinn, September 4, 2025 (Qahwa World) – Coffee People marked the grand return of the legendary GESHA coffee to the Estonian market with a special celebration at the Chin Chin wine bar in Tallinn’s Kalamaja district.

Given the uniqueness of GESHA, it was brewed using the Chemex method and served in champagne glasses, alongside espresso for comparison. Guests enjoyed coffee tastings, food pairings, and a special GESHA pairing with Blanc de Noir champagne. The event was hosted by well-known actress and musician Kristel Aaslaid, with music by DJ Olavi Lõpp.

Originating from Ethiopia, GESHA is a variety derived from the Typica coffee tree. The cultivar is known for its low yields and demanding cultivation, requiring patience, space, and precision, but rewarding growers with exceptional cup quality. Coffee People first introduced GESHA to Estonia in 2017. For this occasion, Salvadoran farmer Emilio López, who grows GESHA in El Salvador, attended the event and shared: “Many farmers are hesitant to take the risk of growing this variety, but when everything goes right, it truly becomes the king of coffee.”

The exclusivity of GESHA is also reflected in its price. It is currently the most expensive coffee on the Estonian market, selling for more than €100 per kilogram, comparable to the price of premium champagne served alongside it during the event.

Coffee People founders Annar Alas and Heili Politanov visited El Salvador last year to meet Emilio López in person and place an order for the new harvest. “After many years of work and anticipation, we are once again ready to share GESHA with you. It is unique not only in its flavor profile but also in the story behind it. Recognized multiple times as the best coffee in the world, I am personally thrilled that it is once again available on the Estonian market,” said Alas.
