The Youngest Coffee Enthusiast: Two-Month-Old Mila Visits World of Coffee Dubai 2025!

As the curtains closed on the grand spectacle of World of Coffee Dubai 2025, an unexpected and heartwarming story emerged from the bustling corridors of the event. Amidst the aroma of freshly brewed specialty coffee and the hum of industry conversations, a tender and unprecedented moment unfolded—two-month-old baby Mila, securely nestled in her father’s arms, became the youngest recorded visitor in the history of the event.

Clad in an elegant cream-colored knit outfit and a delicate white headband, Mila gazed curiously at the dazzling lights and lively atmosphere of the international coffee stage. Her father, Jeremy, a devoted coffee enthusiast and industry professional, beamed with joy as he introduced his newborn to the world he holds dear. With his World of Coffee Dubai 2025 lanyard draped around his neck, Jeremy carried Mila through the exhibition halls, turning heads and warming hearts along the way.

The final day of the event, already marked by incredible achievements, groundbreaking innovations, and global collaborations, found an unexpected symbol in Mila—a beautiful reminder of coffee’s ability to connect generations. As baristas showcased their exceptional craft, roasters discussed the latest trends, and coffee lovers shared stories over steaming cups, baby Mila’s presence became a poignant moment, embodying the very essence of community and legacy that the coffee industry thrives upon.

Attendees and exhibitors alike couldn’t help but smile at the sight of the young coffee explorer, with some remarking that she might just be the future of specialty coffee. From the grand espresso machines gleaming under the event’s lighting to the vibrant green initiatives championed by sustainability pioneers, every corner of World of Coffee Dubai 2025 became part of Mila’s earliest experiences—perhaps foreshadowing a lifelong journey intertwined with the world’s most beloved beverage.

For Jeremy, this moment was more than just an adorable milestone—it was a statement. “Coffee is more than just a drink; it’s a culture, a legacy, and for many of us, a way of life,” he shared. “To be able to share this world with my daughter, even at such a young age, means everything to me.”

As the event concluded with resounding success, baby Mila’s visit will be remembered as a touching highlight of World of Coffee Dubai 2025—a symbol of continuity, passion, and the enduring power of coffee to bring people together, from one generation to the next. The world of coffee is constantly evolving, but on this day, the industry welcomed its youngest and perhaps most promising new member.

And who knows? Maybe one day, we’ll see Mila on stage, competing at the highest levels, holding a cup in the same hands that once reached out to the world of coffee for the very first time.

Flat Whites or Long Blacks? What Our Changing Coffee Tastes Say About Us

From a 13th-century Yemeni brew to today’s pursuit of the perfect caffeine hit, coffee culture continues to evolve.

Adapted from The Guardian | Sun 9 Feb 2025

When Jacob opened what is believed to be Britain’s first coffee house in Oxford in 1650, he likely had no idea what he was setting in motion. At the time, coffee was already fashionable in Europe. In France, where the drink arrived earlier, the Turkish ambassador dazzled guests, including Isaac D’Israeli—father of Benjamin—by serving the finest Mocha coffee in delicate porcelain cups. Perhaps Jacob hoped to capture some of this allure at the Angel Coaching Inn, where entry cost just a penny.

Back then, coffee was simple—fragrant yet intensely bitter. There were no elaborate choices, no caramel syrups, and certainly no milk-based confections. The only real social misstep was grimacing too much at the first sip, an error that grand ladies were adept at disguising behind their fans.

Fast forward to 2025, and coffee is everywhere, thanks to the dominance of high-street chains. But for those who care about personal branding, it has also become something of a social minefield.

The Rise of the Flat White (and Its Decline?)

Not long ago, it was perfectly acceptable to order a cappuccino or a latte in the afternoon—unless you were Italian, in which case you knew that milk-based coffee is strictly for breakfast.

Then, in the mid-2000s, the flat white arrived in Britain, brought over from either Australia or New Zealand (no one seems entirely sure). Stronger than a latte but less frothy than a cappuccino, it quickly became the go-to choice for discerning coffee drinkers. Even major chains like Starbucks and Costa took notice, though true aficionados likely prefer to overlook this.

Yet, every coffee trend has its moment, and at the higher end of the market, the flat white’s reign may be waning.

Enter the Long Black

The latest trend? The long black, another coffee with roots in Australia or New Zealand. In 2023, it was London’s fifth most popular order, accounting for 9% of sales, and has since gained traction in cities like Bristol, Edinburgh, and Leeds. By 2026, expect to see it in local independent cafés across the country—and not long after, on the menus of high-street chains. With a bit of luck, it will be available in canned form in supermarkets by 2028.

So, what is a long black? Despite its name, it’s actually shorter than an americano. Made by pouring an espresso over hot water in a small cup (typically 120ml), it preserves the crema—the rich foam on top that coffee purists revere. While an americano can be mild and unremarkable, the long black promises a bolder, more intense coffee experience. But is it truly special? That’s up for debate. Like the eternal search for the perfect lipstick, the pursuit of the perfect coffee is never-ending.

Coffee Trends: Back to the Future

Coffee trends often have a way of circling back. Many people grew up with pour-over coffee, watching hot water slowly drip through a filter into a cup. Today, this slow-brew method has made a comeback in specialty cafés, where patience is part of the ritual. The result? A superior taste compared to an americano or a long black. However, in the rush of the morning commute, or when faced with a long queue, the convenience of a quick espresso still wins out.

The Evolution of Coffee Culture

Despite our obsession with the latest coffee trends, the drink itself is no longer the subversive force it once was. In its early days, coffee was shrouded in myth—dancing goats, sleepy monks, and, as Alan Davidson notes in The Oxford Companion to Food, the 13th-century Yemeni tradition of roasting beans, where coffee was known as Qahwah, a poetic term for wine. At times, it was even viewed as a threat to religious life, feared for its ability to keep worshippers awake through the night.

Today, coffee has lost much of its revolutionary edge. Some might boycott big chains, independent cafés may push for sustainability, and ethical consumers are willing to pay more for fair-trade beans. But ultimately, coffee has become as comforting and mainstream as English breakfast tea.

Still, whether it’s a flat white, a long black, or whatever comes next, one thing remains constant: our relentless pursuit of the perfect cup.

Jabal Bun Farm… Coffee Above the Clouds

Haraz – Qahwa World is closely connected to Jabal Bun Farm, a renowned coffee destination.

In the high mountains of Haraz, where the air is pure and the clouds kiss the peaks, Jabal Bun Farm was born—a bold project founded in 2020 by three men from the Al-Jabal family: Zakaria, Mustafa, and Qusay Al-Jabal. They defied all studies suggesting that coffee trees cannot survive or bear fruit at altitudes exceeding 2,500 meters above sea level. Today, after years of effort, the farm stands as a testament to human determination in reviving Yemeni coffee once again.

Starting from Scratch

At the beginning of the project, the land required comprehensive rehabilitation, which took an entire year. The process involved plowing the soil, preparing agricultural terraces, and enhancing soil quality to create an ideal environment for coffee trees. The area had been neglected for decades due to the migration of villagers to the capital, Sana’a, and the Gulf region, leading to the disappearance of agricultural lands and their transformation into wilderness inhabited by wild animals. Restoring the land was a huge challenge, as costs exceeded all expectations.

In 2021, the first 4,000 coffee trees were planted, and expansion efforts continued until they reached 8,000 trees by 2023. However, the greatest challenge was not just land rehabilitation, but also testing the feasibility of growing coffee at such an extreme altitude. Many believed that the harsh climate conditions would make the project impossible.

The Biggest Challenge

Growing coffee at high altitudes has always been considered a major challenge. While some reports claim that coffee is cultivated at altitudes up to 3,000 meters in Ethiopia, Colombia, and Peru, scientific evidence supporting these claims remains uncertain. In Jabal Bun, however, the evidence is clear. Satellite data, Google Earth images, and smartphone sensors confirm that the farm is located at an altitude ranging between 2,540 and 2,600 meters, making it one of the highest coffee farms in the world.

This was not mere speculation. The founders discovered an old coffee farm in nearby villages at an altitude of 2,560 meters, but its production was weak due to cold weather and roaming animals. Samples were collected and cultivated for testing. After evaluation and refinement, it became clear that coffee grown at this altitude exhibited a unique variety of flavors and a distinguished body, unlike any other coffee in the region. This discovery gave the project great hope for success.

Yemeni Coffee… A Renewed Heritage

Yemeni coffee has been cultivated for more than 500 years using entirely natural methods. The ripe red coffee cherries are traditionally sun-dried for up to a month before their outer husk is removed to extract the green beans. In Jabal Bun, these traditional methods are applied, but with improvements to ensure the highest possible quality. The cherries are meticulously hand-picked and then dried on special raised beds, ensuring even drying that preserves the coffee’s flavor and unique characteristics.

To ensure the success of coffee cultivation in this unusual environment, innovative solutions were implemented, such as supplying trees with the necessary nutrients to withstand frost, rugged terrain, and high humidity. Large amounts of animal waste were used to create 100% organic compost through a natural fermentation process, which helped the trees adapt and produce high-quality yields.

Harvest Season

As the harvest season begins, the coffee cherries gradually change color from green to yellow to deep red, reaching their peak natural sweetness. At this stage, only the ripest cherries are carefully selected and transported to drying facilities, where they are naturally dried without any chemical additives, preserving the rich flavors of the coffee beans.

The farm has started producing its first limited batch, which has been sent to international clients for testing and evaluation. The farm is still awaiting feedback from roasters and experts on the quality of this new product.

Sustainability and Leadership

These young people’s vision was not limited to coffee cultivation alone. He also sought to support local farmers, launching an initiative to purchase coffee from local growers at the best prices, encouraging them to continue growing coffee instead of switching to qat cultivation. This shift is already transforming the agricultural landscape of Haraz. Additionally, the farm constructed a water reservoir with a capacity of one million liters, ensuring a sustainable water supply for irrigation during dry seasons, helping to secure the future of coffee farming in the region.

Towards Global Recognition

Today, after years of hard work, Jabal Bun Farm stands as one of the most promising projects in the world of specialty coffee. The coffee cultivated at this extraordinary altitude is now being exported to global markets, offering a unique experience for coffee enthusiasts worldwide.

What Makes Jabal Bun Coffee Special?

  • The farm’s high altitude, which gives the coffee distinctive flavor characteristics.
  • A blend of traditional and modern agricultural practices to ensure exceptional quality.
  • 100% natural organic fertilization, making the coffee fully organic.

As the 2025 harvest season approaches, all eyes are on this farm, which serves as a living model of the Yemenis’ ability to revive their agricultural heritage and present it to the world at the highest standards.

Kicking Horse Coffee Promotes ‘Canadiano’ as Alternative to Americano

Kicking Horse Coffee, a British Columbia-based coffee company, is encouraging cafés across Canada to replace the term “Americano” with “Canadiano,” a move framed as a symbol of national pride amid ongoing trade tensions with the United States.

The company has used “Canadiano” on its café menu in Invermere since 2008 and is now inviting coffee shops nationwide to adopt the term. Participating cafés can download a window display logo reading, “Proudly Serving Canadianos: Sorry Americano, it’s Canadiano now,” featuring a red-on-black maple leaf emblem.

“We need to stick together and wear our Canadian pride on our (coffee) sleeves,” said Lori Hatcher-Hillier, Chief Marketing Officer of Kicking Horse Coffee, in a press release.

A Symbol of Canadian Identity

An Americano, traditionally made by adding hot water to an espresso shot, is a popular coffee choice for its balanced strength and flavor. Kicking Horse Coffee believes renaming it the “Canadiano” is a small yet meaningful gesture in embracing Canadian identity.

Several cafés, including Toronto’s Café Belem and Le Petit Pain, have already made the switch. “It’s a simple change, but it puts a little extra Canadian pride in every cup,” said Ryan Silverstein, owner of Le Petit Pain.

This initiative aligns with other recent efforts by Canadian businesses to emphasize local identity. For instance, Montreal’s Fairmount Bagels introduced a “Canada Strong” bagel, and some grocery chains have opted for Mexican alternatives over U.S. products in response to trade concerns.

Kicking Horse Coffee: A Canadian Brand with Global Ties

Founded in 1996 by Elana Rosenfeld and Leo Johnson, Kicking Horse Coffee started as a small roastery in Invermere and has grown into one of Canada’s leading coffee brands, known for sourcing organic and fair-trade beans.

While the company maintains its roasting operations in the Canadian Rockies, its ownership has shifted over the years. In 2012, Rosenfeld entered a partnership with U.S.-based Swander Pace Capital, and in 2017, Italian coffee giant Lavazza acquired an 80% stake for $215 million. Rosenfeld remained as CEO until 2023, when leadership transitioned to Cédric Malaga, a former Lavazza executive.

Cafés interested in participating in the “Canadiano” movement are encouraged to share their support by tagging Kicking Horse Coffee on social media with the hashtag #ItsCanadianoNow.

Generation Z’s Coffee Revolution: Personalization Brews a New Culture

Dubai – Qahwa World

In recent years, Generation Z has emerged as a formidable force in reshaping the coffee industry. Born into a digital age, this cohort values individuality, convenience, and ethical consumption, leading to a surge in demand for personalized coffee experiences. This shift is not merely a trend but a cultural movement that is redefining how coffee is consumed and appreciated.

For Gen Z, coffee is more than a beverage; it’s a canvas for self-expression. A study by Lincoln & York revealed that nearly 40% of individuals aged 18 to 34 are drinking more coffee out of home than in previous years and are more likely to customize their drinks to suit their tastes.

This includes opting for flavored syrups, alternative milks, and unique toppings, allowing them to craft a beverage that reflects their personal preferences.

Social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok play a pivotal role in popularizing customized coffee creations. Visually appealing drinks, such as layered iced coffees or vibrant ube lattes, become viral sensations, encouraging others to experiment and share their own concoctions.

This digital sharing fosters a community of coffee enthusiasts eager to explore and showcase their personalized beverages.

Gen Z’s focus on health and sustainability also influences their coffee choices. Many prefer plant-based milk alternatives and are mindful of sugar intake, leading to customized orders that cater to dietary preferences.

Additionally, this generation values ethical sourcing and environmental responsibility, often choosing brands that prioritize transparency and sustainability in their supply chains.

Embracing technology, Gen Z utilizes mobile apps and online platforms to customize and order their coffee. This tech-savvy approach not only streamlines the ordering process but also offers opportunities for loyalty programs and personalized recommendations, enhancing the overall coffee experience.

As Gen Z continues to influence the market, coffee brands are adapting by offering more customizable options and emphasizing ethical practices. The emphasis on personalization, coupled with a desire for quality and sustainability, is driving the industry toward a more inclusive and innovative future.

In conclusion, Generation Z’s demand for customized coffee experiences is not just a passing fad but a significant shift in consumer behavior. By valuing personalization, ethical consumption, and technological integration, Gen Z is brewing a new coffee culture that is likely to shape the industry for years to come.

World of Coffee Dubai 2025: A Defining Moment in the Global Coffee Revolution

World of Coffee Dubai 2025 is not just another event; it is a testament to the region’s undeniable rise as a global powerhouse in the coffee industry. Set to commence on February 10, this year’s edition marks a defining moment, one that reflects the evolving dynamics of coffee trade, culture, and innovation.

The staggering expansion of the event speaks volumes. A 33% increase in exhibition space, 1,980 exhibiting companies, and a 50% rise in exhibitors indicate an industry that is not merely growing but thriving at an unprecedented pace. The numbers alone are compelling, but what truly sets this edition apart is the depth and diversity of its participation. With representatives from 78 countries, the exhibition is no longer just a regional event—it is a global convergence of expertise, tradition, and business acumen.

Beyond the impressive statistics, the significance of this event lies in the shifting landscape of the coffee world. The participation of 10 national pavilions, including first-time appearances by Morocco and Mexico, underscores how emerging markets are finding their footing on the world stage. Meanwhile, the Arab region’s reinforced presence, led by 137 companies and a sixfold increase in Saudi participation, signals an industry-wide transformation driven by a renewed focus on local production, quality, and economic diversification.

Perhaps the most exciting aspect of this event is the competitive spirit it fosters. The presence of 70 contenders in three national championships is not just a spectacle—it is a validation of the talent and skill shaping modern coffee craftsmanship. The global auction of 15 exclusive coffee collections elevates the event to another level, where rarity, quality, and value converge to define the future of specialty coffee trading.

Yet, amidst all the expansion and ambition, the question remains: What does this mean for the industry at large? The surge in exhibitor numbers and global participation, up by 75%, is not just a sign of interest; it is a statement that Dubai has established itself as an indispensable node in the coffee supply chain. It is no longer merely a consumer hub—it is a key player influencing trade flows, business decisions, and the global coffee agenda.

World of Coffee Dubai 2025 is not just an exhibition; it is a signal of where the industry is headed. It highlights the interplay between tradition and modernity, between heritage and innovation. Those who dismiss it as just another trade event fail to recognize its larger implications. This is a gathering that sets the tone for the future, one where coffee is not just a commodity but a driver of culture, economy, and identity.

As the doors open to this historic edition, one thing is clear: the world of coffee is changing, and Dubai is at its heart. This is not just growth—it is a revolution in the making.

From New York to Chennai: The Story Behind Beachville Coffee Roasters

Some stories deserve to be told in a way that captures their essence and resonates with the readers. This fascinating journey of Beachville Coffee Roasters was first brought to light by my best friend, Sayed Naveed. After reading it, I felt compelled to share it with our audience at QahwaWorld, but in our own distinctive style. Beachville Coffee’s story is not just about coffee; it’s about passion, resilience, and the transformative power of a simple cup of coffee.

A Journey Rooted in Passion

Divya’s journey into coffee began in an unexpected place—New York. She struggled to find a fresh bag of ground coffee to brew her morning South Indian filter coffee, a tradition deeply rooted in her culture. Unlike the pour-over method commonly found in the U.S., South Indian filter coffee involves a unique brewing process that enhances the rich flavors of the coffee. This challenge sparked her passion and eventually led to the birth of Beachville Coffee Roasters.

Initially launched as an e-commerce platform, Beachville soon expanded beyond the digital world. In October 2020, amid the pandemic, Divya took a bold step and opened a specialty café with an in-house roastery—the first of its kind in Chennai. This move marked a significant milestone, not just for Beachville but for India’s evolving specialty coffee scene.

A Commitment to Quality and Craftsmanship

For coffee lovers, a café’s equipment often tells a story about its dedication to quality. Beachville Coffee Roasters is the first café in Chennai to house a Slayer espresso machine—a sign that the team is serious about its craft. This commitment to excellence is also reflected in the selection of coffees they offer.

While Beachville sources beans from Ethiopia, Colombia, and Honduras, its Indian offerings truly stand out. Each coffee has its own personality, showcasing the diverse flavors Indian coffee estates have to offer:

  • Attikan – Floral, bright, and uplifting.
  • Hippla – A syrupy body with dry fruit sweetness and a jammy aftertaste.
  • Gungegiri – Notes of passionfruit, peach, and honey.
  • Nachammai – Rich dark chocolate flavors with delicate white floral aromatics.
  • Filter Coffee Blend – A blend designed specifically for traditional South Indian filter coffee.

Each coffee bag comes with a thoughtful description, and Attikan’s reads: “Everyone’s favorite coffee. Sweet, strong, and easy to brew.” A perfect companion for any time of day, it embodies Beachville’s mission to bring high-quality coffee to its customers.

Beyond Coffee: A Cultural Hub

Beachville isn’t just about great coffee; it’s about creating an experience. The café offers an extensive menu featuring coffee mocktails and an all-day dining experience that includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Their Instagram is filled with stunning images of pastries, innovative drinks, and carefully crafted dishes that make you wish you were there.

In addition to serving exceptional coffee, Beachville is a hub for the community. They regularly host events, introduce new menu items, and foster a space where coffee lovers can connect. The brand’s ability to merge specialty coffee with cultural authenticity has made it a standout player in India’s coffee scene.

For anyone passionate about coffee, Beachville Coffee Roasters is a name worth knowing. Divya and her team’s dedication to quality and innovation has helped redefine specialty coffee in Chennai. Their journey, from sourcing exceptional beans to crafting a welcoming café environment, is proof that passion and persistence can create something truly remarkable.

The next time I visit India, Beachville will be one of my first stops. Until then, I’ll be sipping on their Attikan, appreciating the craftsmanship behind each cup, and eagerly following their journey from afar.
